THEFT!

LAMC Gardeners. Just so you know, we have had complaints of theft. Some cabbage has been taken as well as veggies from plots that were not collected for the Food Pantry. Please, if you live near the garden, keep an eye out for those two-legged vermin! We will have them pull thistle if caught!!!

I will also look into security. I have been told there is a retired security guard that lives in the area and might not mind a patrol or two. Please let me know of any theft so that we can report it.

Compost Bins constructed!!!

Over the weekend the compost bins were constructed (thank you John)!! We decided to go with a low cost pallet system that came up a lot on the web searches. Next on the agenda is a storage shed and the raised beds! Please do not place any thistle or grass in the compost bins!

Grab Your Gloves

Gardeners!

As you know, 4 hours of community garden duties are required per plot per month! Now that most plots are planted, here we go....

First-the sections along the road are being overrun with thistle. This pinchy weed is a pain to remove. If you have a weedwhacher and a good thick pair of gloves, you can pull these weeds and make it look beautiful! Alos if you see thistle growing in one of your neighbors plots, please pull it! (Please make certain it is a thistle first-don't worry, it doesn't take long to recongize thistle!!)

Second-pleae maintin the walkways within your section. Any weeds, volunteer corn,or that pesky thistle needs to go!!!

Another opportunity is to seal the pickets that people decorated at the kick off event. There is a can of sealant in the barn.

I could use some administrative help! Please send me an email or give a call

Please maintain the community plots within your section.

Plots Ready!

Today we finished taping off the plots and as we were doing so, received a delivery of wood chips! If you are looking for something to do between the rain showers, these wood chips will be used on the walkways in the sections. Feel free to ask for a wheelbarrow from the Vision Center.

Remember, planting day is May 16th!

Garden Layout

Well, here is the plan for the garden! Oringinal desings had the plots at the four corners and we felt that might not encourage us all to get to know eachother. The community meeting area is still centrally located and we have added a little meditation garden in the far corner!
The work area is locted on the least level part of the gaden since it won't be used on a dailey basis.
So here are few things to think about
1. What type of composting system do we want to incorporate
2. What do we want to include in the meditation garden.
3. Can we find more water storage bins?!?! I just heard that the others have sold already. We need THREE 300-500 gallon water storage tanks. Please use all your resources to ry to find some!
Hope to see you soon!

You can blog!

I sent and invitation to my personal email to see why I am the only one blogging! If you have decided to follow the blog, I have invited you to post/serve as an author. You only need to accept the invitation (it should be in your inbox).

I am uncertain if you need to set up a google account or if you can use the email that used to invite you. Please share your thoughts!!

Saturday

I think I will head out to the garden before church on Saturday (around4). There are a few layout options and I need ot see what works best. I wouldn't mind some input on the layout as well as advice on how to best get the garden ready for April 18th!!!

Eric also said that April 11th is definitley the day he will be putting in the fence. He is talking with Randy about specifics. As soon as I know a time, I will let you know.

And although the rain makes for sleepy disposition, I am very appreciative that God is watering our garden!!

Bench Construction

What a beautiful day Sunday was to build a bench! This place of rest will soon find its way into the garden. Made from the old barn siding this heavy heavy duty bench will provide a place to watch the plants grow and for us more active gardeners us a place to rest our tired knees!

Stakes are in!

On Monday the area of the garden was staked off with posts topped in bright construction orange. There is tons of corn left needing "gleaned" so that we do not replant it! Benches and waste bins will arrive shortly.
